Cobalt-alloyed Annular Cutters are more heat-resistant. Nitriding these annular cutters hardens the surface of the flutes. Nitriding is a heat treatment used to increase a tool's surface hardness.

This reduces the friction coefficient between the material and the tool. The nitrides formed at the surface increase the hardness and wear resistance of the surface without affecting the toughness at the core of the base material. In other words, nitride annular cutters should be used to achieve better performance and a longer tool life for your tool.
